Italy

Established in 2026, Cargomind (Italy) Srl is headquartered in Vignate, 10 km near Milan - one of Italy’s most important economic and logistics hubs. The Lombardy region is one of Europe’s leading industrial and commercial areas. It offers a highly developed transportation and logistics infrastructure with direct access to international road, rail, air, and ocean networks. In close proximity are Milan Linate Airport (12 km), and Milano Malpensa, Italy’s primary air cargo hub (74 km). Northern Italy is also home to several major seaports that serve as key gateways for international ocean freight.

Our air freight team is based near Milan Linate and Malpensa Airports and uses its extensive international flight network to efficiently coordinate import and export shipments.

Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) is Italy’s main air cargo hub, handling around 60–70% of the country’s freight. In 2024 and 2025, it received the ASQ Award and the “Best Cargo Airport 2025” (Air Cargo Week Europe). Supported by its Cargo City facilities, including specialized handling for pharmaceuticals and perishables, the airport handled over 1.2 million tons of cargo in 2025, maintaining its position among Europe’s top five freight airports with strong intercontinental volumes.

Rome–Fiumicino “Leonardo da Vinci” Airport (FCO) accounts for around 18% of Italy’s air cargo traffic, making it the country’s second-largest cargo airport. It benefits from strong belly cargo capacity on intercontinental routes and serves as a key hub for international cargo connections.

Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) and Bologna Airport (BLQ) are important regional alternatives for air cargo in Northern Italy, offering additional routing flexibility and capacity. They rank among the main Italian intercontinental gateways, holding the third and fourth positions in terms of cargo volumes (approximately 8.2%).

Milan Linate (LIN) and Bergamo Caravaggio (BGY) complete Northern Italy’s airport system, which handles the largest share of the country’s freight traffic and serves the most industrially dense region of Italy.

Other rapidly growing airports in Italy include Naples Capodichino (NAP) and Catania Fontanarossa (CTA). By 2025, the Italian airport system will comprise approximately 44–45 airports open to commercial traffic. Together, they form a well-connected network supporting efficient cargo distribution across the country.

Cargomind Italy primarily uses the major container ports in northern Italy for ocean freight operations. These ports are key gateways for international shipping between Europe, Asia, and the Mediterranean. Italy has over 130 active commercial and industrial ports, with around 45 handling the majority of national freight traffic. The main cargo hubs include Trieste, Genoa, and Gioia Tauro, complemented by important regional ports such as Livorno, La Spezia, Ravenna, Venice, and Naples. Together, they handle most dry and liquid cargo flows and play a central role in Italy’s import and export activities.

The Port of Genoa (ITGOA) is one of Italy’s most significant container and industrial ports. It is also a major export gateway for the Lombardy and Piedmont regions, as well as for Switzerland, Southern Germany, and Austria, thanks in part to significant intermodal investments connecting Genoa to major European cities, including the ports of Northern Europe.

The Port of Trieste (ITTRS) is Italy’s leading maritime cargo gateway and has strong rail connections to Austria, Germany, and Central and Eastern Europe.

The Port of Gioia Tauro (ITGIT) is Italy’s largest container port and a major Mediterranean transshipment hub. It is strategically located along the main shipping routes between Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

The Port of Livorno (ITLIV) is an important port for container, ro-ro, and industrial cargo, serving Central Italy.

The ports of La Spezia (ITSPE), Ravenna (ITRAN), Venice (ITVCE), and Naples (ITNAP) are key regional ports that handle container, bulk, and industrial cargo. These ports complement Italy’s major seaports by providing additional capacity and strong regional hinterland connections.

Italian ports confirm their positive trend: almost 250 million tonnes handled in the first half of 2025 (+1.2%), with containers growing (+2.6%) and solid bulk cargoes rising sharply (+18.9%).
